UPDATE: Pretty much confirmed he targeted women.

Commissioner Webb is asked about whether the offender was avoiding men and deliberately targeting women and children.

"The videos speak for themselves, don't they?" she says.

"It's obvious to me, it's obvious to detectives that seems to be an area of interest that the offender focused on women and avoided the men.

"We don't know what was operating in the mind of the offender and that's why it's important now that detectives spend so much time interviewing those who know him, were around him, close to him.

"So we can get some insight into what he might have been thinking.

"We won't know necessarily but we have to take a judgement from those who know him."

I think he was referring to the ordering video. There were wobbles and confusion at 10am when he ordered food. He was looking through his wallet very confused.

It makes me wonder if either psychosis or drugs were involved. I agree it will be interesting when they uncover more information and a psych analysis is complete, especially since the coppers knew him because of his mental health.

I think there will be ALOT of review into our services and hospitals here in Australia if it is mental health related. We have people turned away from the ED who present, then go and kill themselves. I hope there's big reform here. I have taken people up the hospital who have OD'ed and slit wrists and they got a lecture. I have a client who is 15 who keeps trying to kill herself and they just send her home. Its actually fucking ridiculous.

Your 15 year old client just wants attention though. Sees you’re a soft touch mentally as well. But your work is most certainly noble if not totally useless but we need people like you to help losers

The only way to confront a knife wielding felon is to run away from him IF you can run faster than him.
Even a well trained unarmed person will have a ~30% chance of disarming a felon but will be cut in the process and still probably die from his wounds.

Parents spoke out, schizophrenia was mentioned. Father was asked what he thought triggered it and why he targeted women, the father responded with,"He wanted a girlfriend and had no social skills."

Definitely some sort of psychotic episode relating to schizophrenia, don't know what triggered it. Or it was drugs.

Poor parents having to deal with the backlash of this when all they did was raise him, they couldn't help what mental illnesses he had.
