Re: Vietnamese Woman Hanged Herself During Video Call
Not that I’m gonna try it but how do people die by hanging from such a short distance? The big drop from a trap door is obvious. But these one foot distance hangings, I don’t understand.

Re: Vietnamese Woman Hanged Herself During Video Call
The old hangman's gallows tried to snap their neck (cervical spine) for a rapid death. I read a book that described how a British scientist did numerous experiments to determine a mathematical ratio of weight vs. drop distance in an effort to obtain a sudden efficient death without slow strangulation or rapid decapitation, which were both apparently unwanted outcomes. Unfortunately, most hanging suicides are just a slow process of strangulation. Compression of the windpipe and carotid artery typically leads to unconsciousness within 15 seconds. A large distance from the ground isn't really necessary. I've seen people hang themselves from an ordinary doorknob. It's simply a matter of gravity.

She last typed, "Where are you located?" (uh, I'd say that was a bit late of her to ask) |

Sad that she couldn't figure out a way to handle a problem other than checking out of hotel reality never to return. Death is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. |

Re: Vietnamese Woman Hanged Herself During Video Call
The weight of our bodies is something we are largely unaware of while it's all in working order. Even if this woman only weighed 100lbs, in the short hanging method, all that weight will be concentrated onto a very small surface area at the front of the neck. This is roughly equivalent to a 100lbs ice skater standing on your throat with one foot. That's enough to switch anybody off in a short amount of time. |

Re: Vietnamese Woman Hanged Herself During Video Call
She probably did, the video was cut short after all. According to the stats it’s still the main method of suicide in many countries but it seems so brutal and painful. I really don’t think it’s an easy way out. Not unless you’ve done the maths on your height and weight, length of rope and the appropriate beam or shaft to hang from. I do not condone suicide by any means but it seems to be that a lot of people who choose this method are going to suffer for several minutes if they don’t break their necks. You’re basically choking to death. Imagine changing your mind but not being able to do anything about it Edit: Seems that people have more knowledge on the subject than I so I stand corrected. But I had read that the British hangmen did use a formula that would snap the top of the spinal cord where it connects to the bottom of the brain thus causing a quick death without suffering or ripping the head clean off. They were experts at it. It’s incorrect but widely known that Albert Pierrepoint was the last hangman to carry out any execution in the UK before capital punishment was abolished. But he retired in the 1950’s. The last two prisoners were hung at 8am, August 13th 1964 in Liverpool and Manchester to no fanfare as nobody was aware at the time that capital punishment was to be ended. Abolition of capital punishment came in 1965 as a result of evidence that a person in the 1950’s was hung for a crime they did not commit. |
