Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
Another factor is that the point of impact is just a bit past a turn. There's a good change Tony is focused on the cars ahead and next to him and not looking for or expecting a person out in the track. There is a very chance he didn't even see him in time to react to the hazard. Perception and reaction time to an unexpected hazard is around 2 seconds. At 60MPH Tony is moving at 88 feet per second. He will have travelled about 176 feet before he hits the brakes or starts to swerve. Heck, let's say he has super incredible fast reaction. Cut that by 50%. He would have to have seen the punk when the is still coming out of the turn to avoid him. I have experience in this area and this was probably an unavoidable accident on the part of Tony, but 100% avoidable on the part of Ward Jr.

Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
Like I saw another person say...you can definitely hear Stewart hit the throttle, probably in an attempt to swing his rear end out and scare Ward. Unfortunately he was a bit too close. Ward shouldn't have left his car and gotten in the middle of the track, but what Stewart did was incredibly stupid and dangerous. Being that he's somewhat of a sports celebrity though, I doubt any charges will come out of it.

Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
they were under caution, meaning they were told to slow down and be prepared to stop if needed. he shouldnt have had the speed to be sliding around the track. the fact that he did indicates his speed was greater than he should have been going. still... the other driver would be alive if he stayed in his car. |

Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
If you can differentiate with your supernatural hearing Tony's car from the others, and he indeed accelerated, I would say it was because the impact with the front exposed wheel made his car spin to the right. For him to not collide with the wall, it would be natural to turn the wheel back to the left and give it gas. Have you ever gone off roading, and hit something with your wheel, and literally have the wheel rip away from your hand? What evidence from this video do you base your statement on that it was intentional? I have investigated professionally hundreds and automotive accidents. I can say with no doubt in my mine that based on the video posted here, the car swerved to the right because a 180 pound object hit Tony's right front wheel. I don't know Tony's history and could care less who was at fault. Just going off the evidence provided. |

Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
your expertise had you misjudging the speed by 20 mph or so: (source) still, as i said, Ward Jr would be alive if he had stayed in his car. |

Re: Video of Stewart Running Over Driver Not Going to Be Up for Long
Whether Tony's car hit the kids car is inconsequential. What he did is a common racing term specifically for sprint car racing. It's call a "slide job" which consists of drifting upward through the corner to intimidate the other driver forcing them to back down or make open wheel contact which usually turns out bad for the guy on the outside. If the guy on the outside doesn't back down he ends up in the "marbles" as you see here, which usually ends up in the wall. |
