NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a semi-truck that struck an individual on I-64 West Thursday afternoon.

The incident closed all lanes on I-64 West in Newport News near Jefferson Avenue around 2:20 p.m. this afternoon, as can be seen in the pictures below. Multiple lanes eventually reopened, with only the west inside left shoulder and left lane remaining closed.

According to Virginia State Police, the semi-truck was travelling on I-64 westbound around 2:13 p.m. this afternoon when it struck an individual who had jumped from the Jefferson Avenue overpass.

The individual died at the scene.

Officials say it is possible the driver was unaware that the vehicle had been struck.

Anyone with information about the truck, a description on the truck or witnessed the truck entering or exiting the interstate is asked to contact Virginia State Police at 804-750-8788 or email questions@vsp.virginia.

I couldn't find any dashcam/witness recordings of the incident. I was able to locate the state traffic camera recording from the 2-3pm time frame (jump occ'd at 2:13pm) but it doesn't appear to have any significant images...
