Brazilian Man Shot Dead by Police After Taking Officer's Weapon
East Zone of São Paulo, Brazil A 30-year-old man, Alisson d.S., was shot dead after he took an officer's weapon from his holster during an approach outside a bicycle shop. Alisson worked at a recycling warehouse in the area, with the support of a couple who employed him. Alisson had a history of drug problems, and while he had been clean for some time, it is suspected he suffered a relapse. On the day of his death, Alisson went out to exchange money, but took a long time to return, having apparently been involved in a minor traffic accident with a doctor who promised to repair his damaged bicycle. Alisson was standing outside the bicycle shop, discussing repairs, when he was approached by police. By the time the CCTV footage starts, Alisson is engaged in a tussle with the officers. Alisson then seized a gun from one of the officers' holsters. The officer reclaimed the gun, but a few seconds later, his colleague fired at him twice, once in the leg and once in the chest. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The case is being investigated by the State Department of Homicides and Protection of Persons (DHPP) of the Civil Police, which is investigating the circumstances of the action and the dynamics of the events. |

Re: Brazilian Man Shot Dead by Police After Taking Officer's Weapon
They got the gun back and then shot him anyway. I like this approach. It punishes the criminal while at the same time allows the officer to reap vengeance on someone who just made him look like an idiot. Win-win

Why didn't one of these three useless cops think to pull his leg out to take him to the ground? They need to work on their take down exercises as one of them could have gotten killed. |

Re: Brazilian Man Shot Dead by Police After Taking Officer's Weapon
I guess we'll never know why she shot him, maybe target fixation/excitement-of-the-moment? Didn't have to come to this, they had THREE people there vs. one guy with his back to a wall/couldn't get away, could've gone to ground and been over. Primary lesson here, though: no matter what, don't tussle with the cops. In that sense, this was kind of a suicide. |
