Those cheap ass bikes in Brazil don't have ABS. So when the biker saw the Van at probably 45 mph, he moved to the opposite the lane and pushed the breaks. At that moment, he couldn't change direction anymore. I don't think he had time to make a decision, it was just instinct.

I can’t understand what you are saying. The bike was in the proper driving lane. If you look at the debris field, the motorcycle parts are mostly in the left lane. And he probably had zero time to analyze the situation before impact. I’m willing to bet that the van driver saw the bikers before they saw him, and they did try to evade him. If you’re going that fast, 5 seconds is not enough time to react to some idiot charging directly at you, in your lane.

Difficult to prove murder but he certainly deserves two counts of vehicular manslaughter. Who knows what the Brazilian justice system is like but I can't imagine much time is spent on these crimes. They probably chalk it up as just another road accident. |
