Um 53 is not elderly
It is if, at that age, you can't manage an escalator.

(Sigh) everyone's always anglin' for the shortcut.....

Re: Uzbekistan - Elderly Man and Granddaughter Fall From Escalator

When walking along a corridor, a bridge, staircase, escalator or standing on the balcony, never hold anything higher than the parapet wall. Our local authority has a rules n regulations that any height different more than 1m must install a safety railing/parapet wall of min. 1m.
The center gravity of a human is roughly at their belly button which is slightly higher than half of their full height.
Unless a person is 2m or more, if he/she feel dizzy or out of balance and fall towards the external (which is the railing or parapet wall side) the chances of falling out of the railing/wall will be reduced a lot.
So, never carry your kid on your shoulder and walk near the shopping mall railing, it's very dangerous as you can be pushed by someone (like kids running pass), slip due to wet floor or dizzy and fall.

These open design escalators are just ticking time bombs for such mishaps to happen.. if you lose balance it game over for you.
