I never tire of reading your analysis of these events, like you were there or have some secret knowledge or clairvoyance. Anything could have happened, from a slip to a stroke, from going over on an ankle to an old knee injury rearing its head. None of us know anything about how it happened. |

Given how much separation they were already getting initially after the tumble over the edge he either got insanely lucky to cushion her fall or really had to work at it to get himself between her and the ground. I’d like to think that he actively saved her in the end (albeit from the potentially fatal effects of his own bad decision,) but it’s possible that a closer look at the video might show otherwise.

he shouldn't have been carrying the baby in the first place. I know if it's a small toddler the first thing you think of is keep them in your arms in a tricky place so they won't fall but escalators move..he could have easily just held her hand. but my dad probably would do the same thing with my son..my son is 2 and my dad is 56...now that I've seen this I'm gonna tell him do not carry my boy on escalators!  is it just me or does the railing seem a little too low for someone to tip over so easily?  |

Rewatching the video it actually looks like the kid landed at least a foot or two from the grandfather so she never got the benefit of him breaking her fall. It's a miracle she survived. Oh, the physical resiliency of youth, miraculous in itself!
