This is some leftist that advocated for lesser punishment for criminals in his city of New York. He also helped open 'safe injection sites' which are basically places where people who do drugs can go in and inject themselves with free drugs provided there. Its ironic how everything he fought for in his life keeping criminals out of jail and allowing them to partake in drugs in public ultimately cost him his life.

It seems incredible to me that the central issue is that a person lost his life and that the motives of the aggressor are not being discussed. We must consider that we have failed them, and I understand his systematic frustration. It's not possible for the discussion to be binary, why aren't we considering the feelings of the person who carried out the attack? What if he was upset because someone made a racist comment to him? We should be more tolerant and understanding...
