Dumb kid. Reminds me of one of the The Price Is Right games known as ''Plinko''.

I call it accident + intentional jump (not suicide).

In his earlier descent, he was using a stupid "billy-goat" technique to jump past vert drops from flat spot to flat spot.

He was clearly trying to decide whether to keep going or climb out. Just before he slipped, he was twisted around looking up the cliff at an exit route. When he turned back around (toward camera), the clod of soil he was standing on let go. That slip made the decision for him to descend.

From that point, he focused on his landing target to his left of the big boulder. He leaped in that direction, eyeing he target. But his leap was not strong enough and he fell short and to his right of target, onto a 45-degree slope, which by physics, threw him to a speedy descent.

The whole matter was folly, because even if he hit his target, that ground was still at a 30-degree slope and momentum would have resulted in the same quick ending.

No one will ever know if it was suicide—likely—or some final, futile grasp at meaning in his turbulent life that led him to walk out of an unrestricted psychiatric halfway house, snowed on heavy amounts of the anti-psychotic, Seroquel, fix on the massive, six hundred foot rock, try to climb his way up, and dulled and disoriented, fall. In either case, his sad end has left two devastated parents for whom he was their only child, and their only hope of a lasting legacy of their own ruined, bipolar lives. As well as a lot of unanswered questions.

He's the nephew of a NYT thriller author best-seller. He was suicidal and homicidal.

There is so many articles people cite to this video, I personally don't think it looks like it was recorded in 1997 unless the recorder was some kind of professional film artist with a lot of money for a camera, I think there was also two other deaths in 2009 and 2012. Some people also say he survived, which I HIGHLY doubt judging by how high the fall is when the camera zooms out, if he did somehow survive he's gotta hold the world record of most rock impacts survived. and he's probably a vegetable too..
