Ok I just have to say, why is it that Islamist attacks in the US always look so nativized compared to those in Europe?

This dude was born and raised in the US, has a native American English accent, US Army vet even. He worked for Deloitte, had debt on credit cards and had a bit of a financial squeeze and what not. I'm not even sure he speaks a lick of Arabic.

Could not be more American - even looks like a black American with a Muslim name, not sure what's up with black Americans wanting to sound Muslim even though most of them are quite Christian.

Meanwhile, islamic attacks in Europe are done by Muslims who would be classified as white in the US, are children of Arab or Afghan immigrants or are themselves immigrants born outside of Europe. They often speak broken but still sort of native-sounding Arabic, grew up in the Islamic faith and are often quite jihadist and islamic in rhetoric.

Is it weird that I find that Islamist attacks in Europe have more substance to them than those in the US, which always looks quite non-religious and native-to-the-US?

Fellow-Australian here. There's definitely been mass shootings since, but not a big public attack like Port Arthur.

No question the gun ban has prevented a LOT of deaths though.

In America if you want to die and you're angry at the world, the government, your family etc, it's very easy to take out a few people before you kill yourself. Here in Australia it's much more difficult. The access just isn't there.
