This attack follows the MO of many Islamic terrorist attacks in Israel where the terrorist will weaponize a vehicle upon soft targets, and when the vehicle is disabled, they will exit and chase down more victims on foot until the terrorist is dispatched by an armed citizen or police.

It is predictable that these Islamic terror attacks will be more common in the US with the fluidity of our borders, and the sheer quantity of Islamic immigrants that the US has admitted in past years and decades. The 9/11 Commission Report is an excellent, well written reference for understanding frame of mind of the Islamic terrorist, and their threat upon non-Muslims of the world.
