As Christopher Hitchens pointed out, a religion that is 1200 years old and is unreformed can be a very dangerous thing. Christianity was brutal when it was at that age. It had to be reformed for us to break free and allow us to become more civilized.

I worry that Islam can not make this essential step because it prohibits reformation. The Quran is unalterable because Muslims believe these are the exact words from God as delivered by the angel Gabriel to Mohammed.

We Christians know not to follow Old Testament guidelines on punishment, slavery and the rights of women. Our religion allows us to say that's a load of old crap, in fact Jesus encouraged people to disobey those ancient mandates and instead listen to their hearts.

The Quran is pretty much the Old Testament chopped up and reordered in parts, in other parts it is a direct copy, word for word. And this is used as a guide. It's not a good thing. We learned that lesson in our religion, Islam needs to make that step also. In my humble opinion. But can it?

I'm not even sure why people still debate this. When you do a simple google search for most dangerous countries/lack of human rights all of them are islamic. When you search for happiest/safest countries all of them are irreligious.

Debating something like this is a waste of time since non muslims defending the religion have no clue what they're talking about and muslims defending their religon is simple taqiyya and dawah.

Yeah I know when I criticize Islam it's like talking to a brick wall, the only people I convince are those who are already on board with what I'm saying. But I hope I can plant a seed in someone's mind no matter how hard that might be, I think it's better to at least try than totally give up on it.

About the dangerous countries though, I can already think of 3 that aren't Muslim... N.Korea, Haiti and South Africa.

To be fair, I find all religion to be stupid and a hinderance to societal advancement. But I swore the Oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, so that includes freedom of religion (ALL religions). I take that oath seriously, even if I scoff at what people believe.
