All the dude had to say the off-duty police officers is, "Yo! I'm going up to get some pussy from my girlfriend." "Ain't gonna hold you back from that. Head on up!" |

Re: Unarmed Man Shot & Killed by an Off-duty Chicago Cop During a Confrontation
as a trained cop he is CPR and first aid trained as well. He attempted neither one of those things. He was happy to shoot this guy, and he was also the one who initiated the first hostile act by kicking the mans leg. I say hang this monkey from a tall branch and a short rope. HE is an example of what is wrong with the police. And i would also like to see his Illinois concealed handgun carry permit, i guarantee he doesn't have one even though his gun was in an ankle holster. We have an officer here in Tennessee that moved from Chicago a few years back.Or should i say they ran him out of there. But He did the street beat up there for 30 years then shot and killed an un-armed black man. Shot him 19 times in the BACK for running when he said to stop. He took early retirement, moved to Tennessee then the victims family sued chi-town and won over a million dollars. He was never charged, His name is Lunsford, Google it. Im sure it was a tough beat and theres always two sides to a story but in the back? I dunno i wasnt there

Look; if you are coming at any officer like that you are going to get shot. The officer is not going to let you get his weapon and he will put you down before that happens. From the looks of things he had every opportunity to stop and the guy had no choice but to fire.

I wonder why cops these days don't use taser guns or simply knock the approaching suspect down instead of using lethal force and causing a media outburst. |

Re: Unarmed Man Shot & Killed by an Off-duty Chicago Cop During a Confrontation
Well you've asked the million dollar question. There has been lots of research into just that issue. In the case above, off-duty cops in all probability aren't going to be carrying (check out the costs of a police Taser and you'll see why...) a Taser (either just walking around or working an off-duty security gig). It would be impractical and difficult to conceal. By the way, off-duty officers are not required to use a complex continuum of force like they would be if on-duty...again it's just not practical off-duty to carry around less lethal items like a baton, blackjack, OC spray, Taser, handcuff, radio, etc. The studies I've seen clearly show a decrease in officer involved shootings with the wide spread use of the Taser. Just about every agency in the US and Canada have either outright issued or allowed their officers to buy and carry a Taser. They work and they work great...until a magic StarTrek phaser is actually invented, it's the best tool available...beside they're fun to use. The Taser is a total game changer and a department would be completely foolish not to use or allow use by their officers. In a case like the one at hand...there wasn't much the off-duty officer could do other than outright shoot the guy. The idiot had it coming and was in all likelihood either semi-retarded, drunk, or under the influence of drugs...watch him staggering in the first few moments of the video. If in this case the officer would have used a Taser I don't think the outcome would be different. This idiot was clearly trying to grab the officer's firearm and if it would have been a Taser instead...the officer would have also been forced to shoot the dummy with a firearm. Taking a Taser is the same as taking an officer's handgun and potentially just as dangerous...it might have been used against the officer and incapacitated him allowing the bad guy to then take his gun and shoot him with it. Going hands on also isn't a good idea either. Remember when you fight while wearing a firearm you're fighting for you very life. If the bad guy grabs your gun you're shot...if the bad guy knocks you out or incapacitates you, you're shot. There really isn't a better way to stop an incident like this other than deadly force. Just do as you're told and comply...it's not that difficult.
