It's really common over there. They believe it boosts their immune system. There's this one guy on youtube who says he's been doing it for years and hasn't been sick since he started. He also says hypothermia is easily avoided if you go into the water slowly.  I don't remember the channel but it's hosted by some cute Asian girl who was born in Russia. She posts videos about life in the coldest city in the world (in Russia) and also life in China. |

Damn, I think you can actually hear the man underwater around at the -46 second mark. It sounds like a muffled shout (or more accurately, a dude drowning) and you can tell the panic level goes up in reaction, the woman screams and gasps while the guy grabs the chainsaw. It looks like you can see the guy swimming in the wrong direction too. You can track him while the woman pans the camera by looking at the watermark (it looks like he's under it, coincidentally  ), and it looks like his hand or something is briefly visible in the spot where the guys right boot ends up when he starts cutting.Scary shit man... should've taken a tether. |

Because if you slowly submerge into nut sack shatteringly cold water as a guy your nut sack will...shatter. When you jump in you have a 40% more chance that the sack will make it through the ordeal intact. This of course is nut sack data only, not counting damage to vocal cords, sphincter, teeth, eyes and eardrums which can coincide with a slow submersion or independently. |
