Two Men Die in Boating Accident on Potomac River
Two Georgia men died Saturday in a boating accident on the Potomac River near Fairview Beach in King George County, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.

James A. Melley, 49, of Buford, Ga., and Garth Thomas Tagge, 61, of Atlanta were killed in the single-boat accident. Melley was driving the high-performance boat and Tagge was the throttle-man.

A video of the accident shows the boat going airborne and flipping end over end. The occupants appear to have been ejected.

The Maryland agency is investigating whether the boat was part of a sanctioned race.

The accident happened during the annual Radar Run in front of the Tim’s II Restaurant and Crabhouse.

The event lets boaters run a straight, marked 1-mile stretch and have their speed checked by a radar gun.

The boat that was in the accident had recorded a 170 mph run earlier in the day
