Myanmar. In Myeik local residents reported hearing a deafening explosion on Sunday 17th that violently shook nearby houses. Security camera footage captured the exact moment the facility erupted into a massive fireball, sending thick columns of black smoke into the sky.

Authorities confirmed that two men died inside the facility as a result of the explosion and subsequent fire.

Emergency responders managed to bring the main blaze under control by 8:35 AM, just over half an hour after it began.

The victims were identified as U.S.Nge (50 years old) being a local customer who was actively refueling his vehicle at the station when the storage tank unexpectedly exploded and U.Z.L Myat (37 years old) who was the commercial driver of the Nissan fuel tanker that was stationed at the depot.

U.Z.N.Soe, a 28 year old fuel station worker sustained critical, life-threatening burn injuries and U.Y.Z.Aung, 18 suffered moderate injuries.

According to the official investigation by the Myanmar Fire Services Department, the explosion was caused by an electrical short circuit originating from the tanker's alternator. The spark triggered a rapid blaze that quickly spread from the truck's cabin directly to an adjacent 10,000-gallon capacity diesel storage tank, resulting in the violent explosion.
