Two Immigrants Drown Being Trapped in Muddy Water
In Mexico, two immigrants, a Haitian and a Venezuelan identified as "C", unfortunately lost their lives by drowning after trying to cross the Rio Grande, towards the border of Brownsville, Texas (U.S.), when they were trapped in the mud that, at that point, formed a dangerous whirlpool. Despite warnings about the danger of the area, they decided to take the risk. The Venezuelan migrant, father of two minors, was accompanied by his wife and other traveling companions. |

Huh. Looks like a moat could be more effective than the wall. Sounds cheaper too...

I thought Hollywood style quicksand was largely imaginary. That shit is real, macabre, and fucking appalling to see happen, especially with their children there. Did anybody see any of this actual video on major news like CNN or Fox, or did they deem it too disturbing to show? |

This brings back all those horrifying quicksand fears some of us grew up with.

Re: Two Immigrants Drown Being Trapped in Muddy Water
False hype! There was no whirlpool or quicksand there. That was just deep water with a layer of floating debris. That was a classic group drowning scenario where one or more parties does not know how to swim and finds themself in deep water. The first drowner panics and pulls down anybody they can grab. With a group, usually everybody gets pulled under by chain reaction, regardless of their swimming ability. In this vid, that 3rd guy was lucky to escape the grip of the other 2 victims. Moving river water currents can push people into strainers (fallen trees, etc.) and cause drownings. However, Rio Grande is slow moving, and is especially slow in deep sections. I saw no evidence of currents in that vid. In fact, that floating debris was there because there was no current to move it downstream. I only saw a classic group drowning. |
