I am sure some of them are and there is that social psychological phenomena that happens when people are in violent situations and where an out group or enemy is defined; they will act in ways unlike their character and not associated with diagnosable psychopathology. They looked at this a lot in wars like Vietnam Mai Lai Massacre and currently gang rivalry and jihadist shit and of course Nazis.
