Balikpapan - Indonesia (21-01-2022)

The consecutive accident in Balikpapan involved a truck and a large number of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles in the Muara Rapak area, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan (Kaltim). The truck, which had brake failure, hit a number of vehicles, killing 4 people so far.
The accident occurred in the derivative area of the Muara Meeting traffic light intersection, North Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on Friday (21/1) at around 5 am local time. The truck driver has also been arrested by the police.

According to Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Police, Yusuf Sutejo: "In the regulations, trucks are prohibited to drive here where the accident occurred, but the truck driver, MA (47) still stubbornly drove to those areas."

The rule that MA violated was the Balikpapan Mayor's Regulation (Perwali) which prohibits trucks from passing at the scene of the incident, or at Simpang Rapak during working hours or peak hours.

The second violation found was that MA did not check the feasibility of the container truck he was driving before starting to drive it.

"(His violation) is that he must not violate the first, the second is technically roadworthy (the truck), and apparently he had not properly checked whether the brakes of his vehicle had failed or not," said Yusuf.

Police are still continuing to investigate other alleged violations in this fatal accident case. Vehicle owners will also be investigated more.
