In El Sombrero, Guárico state, Venezuela, a truck driver was transporting a harvester-type machinery when the harvester came into contact with a high-voltage overhead power line, causing a fire.

The truck driver, noticing the blaze, attempted to leave his vehicle - however, he ended up electrocuted just outside his cabin, and his body was ultimately charred by the flames.

Crazy to think he probaby would have survived if he stayed inside. What ended it for him is putting that foot on the ground.

Getting out is not recommended.......unless the vehicle is on fire. Then it's one giant catch 22 & you're fucking dead anyway. Pick your poison, because they're both shitty ways to go.

Maybe it's survivable if you can jump clear without contacting the body of the car or the lives wires, I don't know. Anybody with first hand experience? I am pretty good at water exits from sinking aircraft but haven't got the Electrified Car On Fire merit badge yet...

I think you are supposed to open the door with some cloth material, so that your next move can be to jump out in one smooth motion. You want to slide right off the seat, onto the ground outside. Be careful not to step on the wires. As long as you don't ground out, you should be OK. But they say if there is no fire, JUST SIT STILL ON THE SEAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE, UNTIL THEY CAN DISCONNECT THE HIGH VOLTAGE WIRES. Don't touch ANYTHING inside the vehicle. You are in a "Faraday Cage" within the vehicle, and if you don't ground out inside it, you will be OK.

A Faraday cage is when an area is enclosed by conductive material such that RF energy (at relevant frequencies, which depend on the size of any holes in the FC) cannot get in.

Not grounding yourself in an electrified vehicle is just an issue of not completing the circuit.
