i remember that, if i remember right there was also a guy driving drunk going the wrong way on a freeway who hit his own wife and kids head on and killed all of the people in his wife's vehicle and that asshole survived too  |

I see it says the brakes failed, but I wonder. The speed makes it look to me like the truck was trying to make it through the intersection <before> the traffic got in its way.

If they had seen that truck come speeding towards the intersection and chose not to go then it would have saved their lives. I say that with no implication that this accident was anyone's fault but the truck driver. I've told my 17 yr old son who is learning how to drive now, that a big part of safe driving is keeping an eye out for jackass drivers on the road!
