Three Killed, Nine Injured when Truck Crashes into Banana Traders at Market

Vietnam. On the afternoon of September 17, authorities continued to investigate and clarify the cause of a deadly traffic accident that occurred at a market in the Quang Tri province, killing 3 people and injuring 9 others.

Around 7:50 a.m. today, a truck driven by Tran M. H. (born in 1973) traveling on National Highway 9 suddenly crashed straight into people and traders transporting bananas at a market.

The bodies of the victims have been removed from the scene and handed over to their families. The injured are being treated at the hospital, including three seriously injured.

The deceased victims were identified as: HVĐ. (born 2001, residing in A Doi commune, Quang Tri), HTB and HVT (both Laotian nationals), of which Ms. B. was 8 months pregnant.

Sitting blankly at the scene of the accident, Mr. Ho Van Vi (Lao nationality) still could not believe that his wife and unborn child had passed away forever.

Early that morning, Mr. Vi and his wife transported bananas across the border to sell at the market.

While Mr. Vi stood by the roadside waiting for traders to buy bananas, his wife walked into the market to buy things, when a truck suddenly rushed towards them.

"The truck crashed straight into the crowd, including my wife. Without thinking, I left the banana cart behind and rushed straight into the market, only to see my wife stuck in front of the truck. The locals and I tried to pull her out, but she was", Mr. Vi choked up as he shared.

The accident plunged the normally bustling the market into an atmosphere of mourning. The sound of ambulance sirens mixed with the heartbreaking cries of the victims’ relatives choked up the witnesses.

At the scene, the truck crashed head-on into the market stall area, some motorbikes carrying bananas of people were run over, severely damaged, bananas scattered in the middle of the road.

Each family with a deceased member received 5 million VND, those with serious injuries received 3 million VND and those with minor injuries received 2 million VND.

Tan Long market traders also stood up to call for donations and set up donation boxes to raise funds to support the families of the unfortunate victims with funeral expenses.
