Venezuela. Eduardo S, a 20 years old tenant in Caracas, was killed last Sunday following an altercation related to an eviction attempt. The man was attacked by a citizen claiming ownership of the property. The victim's wife, Elvira, was injured and is hospitalized. The conflict originated from a legal dispute over the ownership of the house. Officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the National Police were present and arrested the aggressor. |

Re: Tenant Shot and Killed by House Owner After Eviction Attempt
"The conflict originated from a legal dispute over the ownership of the house" My wife has a friend that met/married a guy who lives in Guatemala (a long, clusterfuck of a story I'm not going to try to elaborate on). There are weird property ownership situations in South American countries. This friend came to find out this nice house they live in, that has been passed through two generations, isn't really "owned" by her husband. He owns the house, but not the land it sits on and actually selling a house is a flea market bargaining session where there doesn't appear to be any real estate laws around and there are 50 different ways the land owner can fuck over the house owner. Punchline is, disputes typically end up like this where person A kills person B. I'm not sure killing another party resolves a dispute but I suppose if you find out you are about to get cornholed, well.. shit happens. |
