One Killed when Mobile Crane Lifting Huge Xmas Tree Topples Over
What started as a day dedicated to erecting a huge Christmas tree in Brazil ended up turning into a tragedy, after the crane used in the installation suddenly collapsed over the work area, leaving one worker dead and another injured. The accident occurred while the team was progressing with the festive preparations, when, for reasons still under investigation, the structure lost stability and collapsed, forcing emergency services to intervene immediately. Local authorities are already gathering technical information to clarify what went wrong and why the machinery failed during operation. |

I can save them the time and effort. The load-side front outrigger was only extended 67% of full length. Looks like the operator ran it short because a stage structure blocked the way. As a clue, if that front outrigger was fully extended, the crane truck driveshaft would have been level when the truck tipped over.  |
