Re: Teens Mocking, Cursing, Laughing & Filming 32 Yo Disabled Jamel Dunn Drowning
Expecting some black teens to save another black man from drowning is akin to expecting an Asian to teach another group of Asians in drivers ed. Someone's gonna die... In all seriousness though, they should have called for help. |

If they didn't know how to swim, what should they do? People on this site laugh at the dying and dead all the time. They were just doing it live. Even if they could swim, why should they risk their lives for someone they don't know? We need to take care of ourselves in this life, not some idiot too dumb to stay out of the water.

Just imagine if his parents and family had to watch this video, forever burnt in their minds knowing their son is black and can't swim. Excluding the birth father because you know he disappeared forever after he found out she was pregnant. |

Re: Teens Mocking, Cursing, Laughing & Filming 32 Yo Disabled Jamel Dunn Drowning
Ayn Rand couldn't have put it any better. This is a morality consistent with an atheist/"objectivist" (her term) ontology. Take a reasonable risk if the person in danger is of value to you personally. If it is a stranger and you can perform the rescue with near zero risk to yourself, go ahead out of a generalized respect for a (presumably) rational human being. Have you read Rand? If not, you would definitely enjoy her. She makes a point of contrasting her ethics with those which are religiously (particularly Christian) based.

I haven't read her, but I have heard of her. I will order one of her novels and see what I think. How can anyone argue with this logic? They are still thinking like children.

I would suggest you start with her summary of her underlying "Objectivist" philosophy, titled "The Virtue of Selfishness". It gives a perspective to her novels, which tend to be long and drawn out. Your comments on the drowning man are almost exactly what she says therein.
