Wait, so liking gore automatically equates to liking/tolerating racism?

Really?

What are the steps in your thinking process that means if you like gore you must also like and or tolerate racism? The two are nothing remotely alike.
I never assumed any of the above- you came up with that. But I’m glad you reported it! You are keeping us all safe. Your definition of racism may be interpreted as you being a tad too sensitive.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

Even touching the corpse will open yourself up for lawsuits; what if you find a pulse, are you going to touch or stabilise him?
Good samaritan laws will cover the actions of those trying to help in most circumstances in North America.

When an individual is in distress, and is unable to provide consent, it may be assumed so long as those trying to help do so in good faith.

Part of that good faith involves not providing aid that is beyond the skills of those responding (someone with no medical or first aid training attempting to perform a tracheotomy for instance), but what is and isn't permitted varies depending on the severity of the situation.

In a situation like this, pretty much anything will fall under the auspice of the law, as it's acknowledged that doing nothing will almost certainly result in the death of the victim in situations like this.

With help, he's probably still dead given the fall, but even a small chance is better than nothing.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

Well, according to OSHA in the U.S. 75% of falls, from a height greater than 13 feet, are instantly fatal and non-survivable. So there wasn't anything they realistically could have done. I don't know what the statistic are for a fall from 40 feet, but I would guess the survival rate is close to, or at, 0.
The underlying mechanics are too variable to view figures like that as absolutes.

Just saying, "he fell from over X feet" doesn't remove the chance that he may have survived, and needs aid immediately.

Even with the body positioned as we saw, there are multiple points on the body where someone could check for a pulse, or perform a visual assessment for any obvious injuries, chest movement, and also check for CS fluid from the ears and nose (indicative of damage to the brain and spine...and definitely an indicator that you do not want to move the victim unless it is utterly essential to render aid).

The odds are pretty high that he was beyond help, but that doesn't mean bystanders shouldn't try.

Performing tracheotomies without medical training is the worst!

Actual video of attempting tracheotomy with no medical training:

I have no legal education, but if I did, I would claim my client thought the man at the bar was choking so he used his pen in an emergency appendectomy. The choking victim wouldn't remain still and interfered with life saving efforts and had to be subdued.

Reminds me of an eye surgeon I knew from New Jersey. He was doing free charity surgery in India with a German eye surgeon without an anesthetist, patient with eye cut open started waking up, so the Kraut punched him back unconscious in the head...

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

Death traps.

I've had a few bad experiences, have lived near ride fatalities where it dominated the national news for a while, then dwindled, remained on the local news, then you hear less and less about a kid's decapitation- and it is decapitation, like, a lot.

I mean, I'm still gonna ride them, but we really need to tighten up regulations.

I think the only thing worse than the kids operating the ride freaking out, looking at a dead body and knowing it was their hands that pushed the button, are the people still strapped in and screaming to be let out. In that moment they probably had a lizard brain terror that the ride would keep going and they were unable to bodily extricate themselves from the situation.

Awful awful awful.

The kid was so big, he shouldn't have been on the fucking ride. He was fat, sure, but also so fucking tall, way taller than most grown people.

Some people would even argue that the pavement is racist in this case
