Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
Yeah, what a noise. Talk about going out with a bang! I’m surprised there wasn’t any damage to the ground, or really any appreciable splatter or anything. Would’ve been a much different story if he hit the metal fence, then all bets would be off… At least the medical examiner will be able to get an accurate time of death, just listen for the sound of a 300 pound kid slamming into the pavement at about 80 miles per hour |

A carny on Documenting Reality! What do you think of the ride operators reactions? Do you get any training on what to do if there is an accident? Are they supposed to wait for medics and not touch an injured person? The victim seemed to retain at least some of his velocity when he slipped out and then fell perhaps another 50 feet to belly flop onto concrete, I doubt he would lead a fulfilling life even with a trauma team at the ready. |

Wet splat. The guy that wanted to keep his food in his stomach found that got just a bit trickier.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
Same thing happened to me at Alton Towers. In the 90s too. I hadn't been in such a ride since I was a kid. Had no idea what was what. But looking at my belt thingie, I thought, surely that isn't right. So just as they were about to send us up, i called out, feeling a bit silly, to the attendant. Should this be like this. He neither confirmed nor assured. Reached over and I hear a clunk and felt the tension across my lap. Then seconds later, we were up, and my mind wasn't taking in the ride at first. Was I really minutes away from falling out??? I never made a fuss. I hadn't heard of accidents on rides back then. This was pre internet. Now every time there's an amusement park incident, I increasingly accept that the attendants were negligent. And my hypervigilance averted ... |

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
As it took off, the attendant repeatedly yelled to someone in the direction of the fallen passenger about their seat belt. 3 times. He knew something wasn't right. And when the female colleague came and asked more than once, did you check the belts? Are you sure? The responses she got were incongruent with what was shouted out at the the ride's departure. This footage will be the family's ATM card. |
