Re: Swimming Instructor Dies from Breath Training
Around 3:20 he realizes he's in trouble, but he's become so hypoxic that he can't control his muscles. As you can see he attempts to move his hands and arms to grip the edge of the pool and raise himself up, but all of his muscles are like limp spaghetti. He can't even raise his head. To compound it he's almost certainly taken water into his lungs already; the bubbles we see around 3:20 are him exhaling, likely indicating he'd already attempted several breaths, which flooded his lungs with water. His hypoxia-induced inability to pull himself out of the water seals his fate, and he flounders for a bit, gulping water, until going under. Even at the bottom of the pool his nervous system, which doesn't know he's submerged in water, still forces him to inhale, and he continues to fill his lungs. The early spasms and contortions we see are probably what his body has to do in that last-ditch effort, though I suspect when his body tries to fold in on itself that's more of an indication of hypoxic brain damage. Very disturbing to watch but also educational on the "phases", for lack of a better word, of drowning. |

Re: Swimming Instructor Dies from Breath Training
He got that breath training down so well that he has no further need for it.

What the fuck they literally watched him die???? And did nothing?? I'd fuck up somebody's workout to check if they're alive, he could've kept practicing later. Wow
