Re: Suicide In Court After Guilty Verdict
Here's a bit of info i gathered about Cyanide. If I find more I'll edit this. After exposure, cyanide quickly enters the bloodstream. The body handles small amounts of cyanide differently than large amounts. In small doses, cyanide in the body can be changed into thiocyanate, which is less harmful and is excreted in urine. In the body, cyanide in small amounts can also combine with another chemical to form vitamin B12, which helps maintain healthy nerve and red blood cells. In large doses, the body’s ability to change cyanide into thiocyanate is overwhelmed. Large doses of cyanide prevent cells from using oxygen and eventually these cells die. The heart, respiratory system and central nervous system are most susceptible to cyanide poisoning. The health effects from high levels of cyanide exposure can begin in seconds to minutes. Some signs and symptoms of such exposures are: Weakness and confusion Headache Nausea/feeling "sick to your stomach" Gasping for air and difficulty breathing Loss of consciousness/"passing out" Seizures Cardiac arrest The severity of health effects depends upon the route and duration of exposure, the dose, and the form of cyanide. |

Re: Suicide In Court After Guilty Verdict
Since I apparently cant edit my previous post. I would like to add that, if it truly was a cyanide pill he took, it was potassium cyanide pill. Traditionally, lethal pills are oval capsules, approximately the size of a pea, consisting of a thin-walled glass ampoule covered in brown rubber (to protect against accidental breakage) and filled with a concentrated solution of potassium cyanide. It is important to note that purpose-made lethal pills (of the rubber-coated type) are never swallowed whole. Instead, they are first crushed between the user's molars to release the fast-acting poison contained within. Brain death occurs within minutes and the heartbeat stops shortly after. |

Reading his accomplishments I can't help but wonder where he took a wrong turn- what happened in his life to turn things around so drastically? From the top of Mt Everest to taking his own life in a courtroom. I'm sure his children were devastated. |
