Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
I witnessed the failed jump of a 19-year-old Marine reservist. In his case, he never pulled the cord. He hit the ground in the jump position. Yet, this vid was disturbing to me, and nothin' much disturbs me.

Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
Situational awareness. I doubt after being spun around that much that Ms. Stamm was thinking clearly. If she had kept the main chute she still could have died, but cutting it was the seal on the deal of only one resolution.

Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
Just a guess: She tried to fix whatever problem she had (perhaps a hung brake line), and waited WAY too long to "chop" her main and go to her reserve. Her inexperience cost her. As for riding the spinning canopy to the ground... Not sure that would've been such a great option either... |

Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
i agree...her chance of survival would have been higher if she hadn't have cut the cord so late...she must have had some pretty severe vertigo to lose spacial awareness like that.

Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
should've kept spinning....would maybe have a broken leg/ankle tops...instead the broad got excited when the ground was fast approaching and acting on crazy adrenaline decided to pull the reserve instead of just waiting for the landing.....oh well
