Re: Soldier Falls to His Death During Training
I think that's because this actually is a paratrooper training exercise for Iraqi special forces lol. I haven't had much luck finding another jump video like this, but I do think I was able to identify some of the insignia seen in the video. People in the thread were asking what is supposed to happen during this training exercise, and I was curious myself since the videos I've seen like this usually involve more rope, and aren't vertical drops, but I haven't had much luck yet. My guess is that this might be one of those exercises designed to give paratroopers confidence in jumping and falling. Perhaps the rope was supposed to slow the fall enough so when he lands on the blue mat, he's fine, but something or someone fucked up. The video below obviously isnt Iraqi, but does give some insight into how this kind of training creates the "airborn mentality". |

Re: Soldier Falls to His Death During Training
This isn't some parachute unit training, this is basic rope repel training, I did it when I served... though we never jumped into death like this hahaha. The people standing at the bottom are holding onto his ropes in order to slow his descent as he repels down the wall to the blue mats. He felt like superman and jumped without announcing his intention to those on the ground in charge of his descent ropes. And thus paid the price for being a showpony. |
