The people standing at the bottom are holding onto his ropes in order to slow his descent as he repels down the wall to the blue mats.

He felt like superman and jumped without announcing his intention to those on the ground in charge of his descent ropes.

And thus paid the price for being a showpony.

Yeah that was my initial thought as well, the jumping really threw me off, it just doesn't make sense, but im going to take your word for it lol.

Its weird that both guys checked with the men on the ground before jumping but the rope offered no resistance, which makes me think maybe something wasn't connected properly. The rappel videos ive seen dont have the people jumping off the way he did without carrying a lead to have some control of their decent.
