Soccer Player Killed After Being Struck By Lightning
An amateur Peruvian soccer player was killed and seven other players were injured after being struck by lightning during a championship match in Chilca, Junín Province, authorities said. The deceased was identified as 39-year-old José Hugo de la Cruz Meza. The players were leaving the field after a lightning bolt struck near the stadium, when a second bolt struck the field, knocking de la Cruz and seven other players to the ground. A 40-year-old goalkeeper, who was right next to de la Cruz at the time, was taken to hospital in serious condition. |
