Re: Should've Looked Right

First things first, human life is far more precious, and sacred (even yours), than a "schedule!" And secondly, preventative measures are utilized all the time in our lives! For example, traffic lights have saved how many lives, and yet how much time can they slow us down, especially in cities where they take so long to change, but nevertheless motorists/pedestrian lives are still more important than punctuality! And for another example, do we not immunize our children, their lives being sacrosanct, for preventative purposes, their very lives being so important to shield them from deadly illnesses, etc. Alas, on railroad tracks it seems human life has no import....
Well ……

That response took me aback!.

That one could be so even tempered and rational, in the face of my wanton scandalous abuse ??!!. I was looking for a bit of a flame war there Mr Flaherty - and you have disarmed with me courtesy.

All I can therefore retort with is, a startled "harrumph" ….. so HARRRRRRUMPH !!

Re: Should've Looked Right

Looking both ways before crossing could have also prevented this.
However, such caution would have deprived us of watching this human bowling ball, give to Mr Darwin, the 7-10 split he was sooooo looking for ……

Shit. Looking down both ways of the track would have prevented this. Was he on his cell phone oblivious to death coming at him at warp speed?

Re: Should've Looked Right

As I've stated before, I think trains, when passing through a crossing and/or station, etc. should be going at a slow speed....then once passed, back up to speed again! We do it at school zones, right?!

Trains are huge and heavy.

Not only does it take forever for them to slow down but it would likely still kill you even when moving at a slower pace because of momentum. Even a slow moving train has higher momentum than a bullet.

...and these idiots not paying attention would still walk right into them.

Also, fast moving trains occupy crossings at shorter time periods, giving idiots such as this one, less opportunity to smack their heads against 100s of tons of moving steel.

Or the sense to look both ways, next time.
