Also,a 7.62mm round isn't going to impact as much tissue as a round that's 3/25 of an inch in diameter.

Again,back to physics.The speed of a shotgun round is much slower than a rifle round.Therefor a rifle round has more of a piercing effect.As a shotgun round has a punching effect much like a .45...

Back to physics again.You will notice that the shot doesn't pierce through the mans neck.This tells me that the shot used wasn't heavy enough to provide for deep penetration.That's how I came to the conclusion that he is using a #6 shot or smaller.

Just watch the vid I provided and observe that mans skull being blown vertically upwards.

And as far as gauging the size of shotguns by their sound...

The force of the bullets coming out of the gun simply CANNOT be greater than the recoil of the gun. I know this sounds odd, but it is true. Think of it this way: the impact from of the fired shot of the gun to this guy's chest can be no greater than that which you would feel if you fired the same gun with the stock against your chest. The penetration of the shot actually reduces the force felt, as some energy is lost deforming both the shot and the flesh.
