One victim has died and another has been rushed into surgery after a shooting incident at parking lot at Worcester State University in Massachusetts around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, said authorities.

Neither the victims nor the suspected assailants are students at the university, said a spokesperson for the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. Worcester is located approximately 40 miles west of Boston.

A shelter in place order was put in place by officials at the university shortly after the shooting, and was lifted just before 9:30 a.m. this morning. There is still a large police presence on campus.

A state police spokesman stated, “It is premature to state that a suspect is in custody. Investigators are still probing all the facts and circumstances of the incident,” correcting an earlier statement by state police that a suspect had been apprehended.

There are around 6,200 students enrolled at Worcester State University. It has an open campus which is not locked or gated.

UPDATE:

The young man killed in the shooting at Worcester State University over the weekend was identified Monday as 19-year-old R.A.M. (first pic) The injured victim was 21 years old.

Police are looking for 18-year-old Kevin Rodriguez, who is wanted for armed assault with intent to murder and weapons charges. A second person involved in the case was arrested on a single gun charge in connection to the shooting.

Wow, I lived my whole childhood (and much of my early adulthood) just two miles from Worcester State College. Walked by it every day back then, and just did a hike a few weeks ago around the grounds. This is shocking.

Granted she very well may be right simply due to its popularity, but there’s no way she could identify a Glock from where she was at, and at night to boot. If she could even identify a Glock at all
