A shipwreck left at least 14 people dead on Thursday (8). The vessel carried passengers to the city of Belém, in Pará. There were 70 people on board: 30 were rescued alive and the rest are still missing .

The information was confirmed by the Integrated Command and Control Center of Pará, which set up a rescue operation , with speedboats and a helicopter for the search.

The company responsible for the speedboat was not authorized to operate in intercity transport and left a clandestine port .

According to information from the Fire Department, the shipwreck occurred near Praia da Saudade, on the island of Cotijuba. The cause of the accident has not yet been released. Residents close to the site say bodies of people who drowned washed up on one of the island's beaches and were also pulled out of the water by local residents .

The Belém Department of Health (Sesma) released a note about the case: “The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) is in the area, using ambulances and ambulances, helping to rescue the victims of the accident. Sesma still does not have information on the number of victims of this accident”, he highlighted.

The vessel was traveling between the port of Camará, in the city of Cachoeira do Arari, in the Marajó archipelago, to Belém .

“The propeller stopped in the middle of the bay [of Marajó] and the captain warned no one to despair, but the speedboat started to sink out of nowhere and people started jumping off the speedboat . There were a lot of elderly people and children on the boat”, said one of the passengers.

I know there's better videos out there, in particular one with a psycho filming people crying over bodies whilst smirking, but I can't find unwatermarked version at the moment.

Why are they just sitting there why the boat takes on water. Someone should have been handing out lifejackets and evacuating them from the obviously sinking vessel or at least yelling grab a life jacket and abandon ship
