Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
I heard it took 2 hours for the firefighters to come. Anyways if you want go out in a blaze. This is the way to go. |

Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
Goddamn. In my 24+ years of working public safety, I've come up on two similar incidents: One when I was in a local VFD, we had a house fire. I was one of the first to arrive, in my POV. The house almost completely fully involved, yet I could hear a guy screaming, from inside. Without our engine (and water and SCBA's) there yet, I could only do fuck all. Luckily, the screaming didn't last TOO long. The other one was not long after I got my paramedic license. We pulled up to a multi-car crash, and one of them was on fire. Again, I could hear screaming from inside. However, fire and rescue hadn't arrived on scene yet, and I had to listen to this man burn to death, a few feet from me, separated only by some crumpled up metal. People, believe me when I say that hearing someone scream, like that, AND not being able to do jack to help them, AND telling them "I'm sorry" (don't know if he even heard me) is an absolutely horrific experience. This is the only call that's ever given me literal nightmares. I shuddered the entire time watching this video, knowing the frustration that's going on. |

If I were there, woulda got everyone to use their hands, or shovels(if for some reason anyone had any) to scoop up the dirt and bury the flames...

Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
It's an interesting question. It would hopefully result in a grand jury hearing and no indictment. On the other hand, some do gooder DA could easily file murder 2nd degree or manslaughter charges and you'd be screwed. In either case it would cost thousands in attorney fees and years of stress.

Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
The whole thing with this video is that it could happen anywhere at anytime to any one of us...either as victims or rescuers. The poor Russians gave it one hell of a good try, but their attempts were ham handed and ineffective...mostly due to crap equipment, lack of equipment, and failure to how to effectively use the equipment at hand. If they had used all the fire extinguishers at once...one, two, or three at one time right after the other, early on...they might have saved that guy. Because they used one extinguisher...waited...got another extinguisher...waited...etc. They failed to overwhelm and smother the fire and coat the fuel. Their attempts were praise worthy, but lame and uncoordinated...no one seemed to have any experience with rescue or firefighting. In other countries the outcome might have been different, but those countries are few and far between. They did the best they could with what they had, but someone should have been better prepared being that way away from civilization and public safety services.
