Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
I carry a relatively large fire extinguisher in every vehicle I own. 2 times I have needed to have one and was lucky to have it (well actually the other person was). I also have large recovery straps (crane ties) in my diesel and the plan is if in this type of situation, to hook the vehicle and drag it clear of the pool FIRST then use the extinguisher. Like in this case, parts of the vehicle are extremely HOT during normal operation. Extinguishing the flame can be temporary at best if a flammable liquid or solid is in contact with a very hot part of the vehicle as the heat retained is hot enough to re-ignite the material after you have ran out of extinguisher. Remember, a standard dry powder extinguisher does NOTHING to cool what it touches, unlike the water cannon on a fire truck... That being said, why doesn't Russia just ban car accidents already? |

Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
I was behind a car that crashed into the back of a truck on the M25 motorway and burst into flames, tried to rescue the people inside but no way we could help because of the heat, that goes through my mind every night before I go to sleep, this happened back in 1987.

Re: Russian Man Burned to Death in Car Accident
The nightmares. Poor guy. Good grief! The nightmares these bystanders will have, OMG. I couldn't watch the whole video because those screams and cries for help were too much. Terrible situation. So freaking terrible. Maybe they government should start setting up road side assistance boxes for situations such like this, bystanders can have more adaquete supplies to use to rescues someone. Like large extinguishers, burn blankets, first aid kits...that type of stuff.

sweep100 So sorry to hear that. Truly devastating. You should feel a little comfort in knowing you did all to try and help the victims. Have some solace in that. You didn't just stand there and watch.
