The kid was stupid to provoke, attack, and resist the cops and the cop was probably dumb for what seems to be poor trigger control, but given the circumstances, I'm having a hard time putting any real blame on him. The punch the cop threw and the kick was more of a warning like "just back off kid..." than anything super hostile and his reaction seems genuine, like he really didnt intend on actually shooting the guy..

I think the same. I don't think for a second that the officer shot the kid on purpose. He made a poor decision by having the gun in his hand whilst trying to restrain him.
