Idk why but I'm a little obsessed over this one. Others have commented how the alarm is pretty much immediate when she enters the water. Normally, that doesn't occur until someone doesn't resurface in a reasonable amount of time. The spotter freaks because she hits the water at a slight angle with her feet pointed out infront and not down, such that they act like flippers and cause her to knife down under the ice beneath the spotter at about a 20°angle. With a 10 to 12 km an hour current, she would have been 10m downriver by the time the male bather jumps in. Zero chance. Idiots.  · |

One last thing... Remember it takes a young, healthy person up to 2 full minutes to lose consciousness in a drowning event, AFTER they begin inhaling water. In other words, the drowning person holds their breath as long as they are able, and when they are no longer able their body will start reflex breathing. It is from that point that the victim starts to drown. So that's two and a half to three minutes or so of thrashing around, panicking. Imagine the pitch blackness, the sub-zero rushing water, the ice as unforgiving as concrete and NO possibility of locating an exit, AND knowing that to be the case... KNOWING there was no hope after the first 5 seconds... What went through her mind????? I mean except for an acute case of religiosis and sudden, profound regret. That made for a unique palette of feelings there for a minute or two, wouldn't you say? I am getting cold sweats just thinking about it... Fucking fuckity fuck fuck. |
