Do you suppose you get a discount when you have someone who dies like that cremated? I mean half the work's already done

Damn that’s crazy...you have to just drop at some point rather than burn alive. No way man. That’s horrible

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony

Only reason I can say he didn’t jump is bc he was too drunk or high. Otherwise wtf.

Hang from the ledge and jump. I don't even think he would have broken anything. Must have inhaled the heat and that did him in.

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony

Top notch fire department right there.

Agreed. I about lost my shit when they showed a fire truck was already there. What the actual fuck.

FD in the US would have had water on fire in less than 3 minutes after truck stop on scene.

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony

A lot of people underestimate the heat that comes from such a big fire.
Sure, firefighters have protective clothing, but even with those you can't just walk through fire. It protects you from the heat, at least until a certain point.
I'm glad you said it because I was going to post the same thing. It's amazing how far away you can be from some fires and still feel its intensity.

I'm sure that railing was hot as hell too, hot enough to quickly remove sensation making gripping the bar to carefully lower himself impossible...and that's not even taking into account the fact that he was inebriated. I doubt he was even aware he was frying his hand.

If he wasn't drunk he probably would've been able to conclude that trashing his hands and breaking his legs was preferable to being slowly consumed by flame.

...Poor bastard.

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony

At first I was puzzled by his inaction but then remembered something from Forensics for Dummies, namely Carbon monoxide intoxication. It "not only causes death, it often prevents victims from escaping before the fire kills them. As the CO level in the blood increases, the person loses the ability to think and move properly. At a CO level of 20 percent, dizziness and confusion occur; at 35 percent, weakness, loss of coordination, and disorientation appear; and at levels above 50 percent, the victim experiences loss of consciousness and death. So even if the victim is alive and has time to escape when the fire starts, the toxicity of the CO may prevent her from doing so."

2004 ed. pg. 124

Shit way to go given that he was so close to freedom.

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony

I've fallen from a height about as high as the roof of that building onto a concrete platform when I was 18. It will cause leg trauma and he'd have to crawl, but he'd fully recover in a hospital probably...and then 20 years later deal with back problems from it, but hey - it's better than burning.
