Side stands or kickstands normally fold up automatically. My Harley has a large spring on it, to keep it in either over-center position. If it is not full down, it will automatically flip up. So it wasn't the kickstand. Looks like he ran up against on the curb with the bottom of his frame. But the question is how did he lose control and wind up scraping the curb? Wonder if he'd been drinking?

Also, motorcycles have a safety feature whereas, if you start your bike with the stand down, as soon as you click it into gear, It stalls the engine.

My kickstand didn't automatically fold up on any of my bikes.

Most kick stands fold up if the bike moves forward. I'm wondering though if his bike did too, but while turning, the kick stand did make contact with the road, causing a loss of traction to the road. He didn't appear to be turning fast though.

I call dibs on that bike, it look pretty fuckin' evil. More impressive than many of the USA custom builders IMHO.

Maybe this guy's club is a Russian 1% motorcycle club. Cross them and you get polonium in your Pabst Blue Ribbon...

Nope. Not buying the side stand excuse. Not without more info on the motorcycle he was operating and the level of modifications done to it, among others. Not saying it couldn't happen, there are too many unknowns to hang your hat on that one causal factor.

That's what I thought, too. I have a Yamaha, and 2 Harleys, and all of them, if you move forward, the kick stand will flip up. But someone else on here said that THEIR kickstand DID NOT fold up automatically, so if the bike was like that, then that explains it.
It looks to me like the curb he ran up against, sticks out farther than the rest of the curbing, so it appears he ran into a corner of that. You can see sparks where he contacted it. But I can't make out specifically what happened. I think if he had been 12 inches further out in the road, he might have missed it completely, and just gone around the corner with no problem.
It's hard to imagine riding any distance with the kickstand down. It would scrape from the first turn that you made. But you never know.
If the guy built the bike in the pics, then he obviously knew what he was doing, because he did an awesome job. It's a VERY impressive machine.
Which makes it even harder to understand what happened. He's not some pimply teenager on a scooter that has only ridden 300 miles total.
I'd be really curious to read the police report on this.

I agree! That is an AWESOME looking motorcycle! I would LOVE to try that one out. He must have some great skills as a bike builder.
