What a waste. You'd think the president of the local bike club would remember to put his kickstand up before driving at "full speed."
There's a guy in my town that lost his arm and it was not because he forgot to put the kickstand up. What he was doing was pushing the kickstand down to make sparks on purpose and wound up hitting a wall. To me it kinda looked like that's what this guy was doing too.

I've never owned a bike that had an automatic kickstand. But they are designed to fold back if they are left down and hit the ground. And most bikes do kill the motor if the kickstand is down in gear.

Maybe he road a custom bike.

Re: Russia - Biker Meets Lightpole

Side stands or kickstands normally fold up automatically. My Harley has a large spring on it, to keep it in either over-center position. If it is not full down, it will automatically flip up. So it wasn't the kickstand. Looks like he ran up against on the curb with the bottom of his frame. But the question is how did he lose control and wind up scraping the curb? Wonder if he'd been drinking?
A motorcycle kickstand that is designed to move in same direction as say, a bicycle kickstand, would not cause an accident. When the bike moves forward the kickstand would move up, unless it was put on backwards. I believe the vodka had more to do with the crash.
