Most of the time the jumper survives the fall....but is severely injured from the impact. Paralysis and drowning is usually the cause of death.

I actually read that this was murder. She as thrown off the bridge by an ex-boyfriend and his friends or something to that effect. I'll try and find specifics to confirm.
