Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
What's funny is that not even Nationsquid, the original uploader, is claiming that the video is legit. Meanwhile, he's making money with the ads, and getting some attention that he would NOT normally get, and of course he disabled the comments to the vid, for SOME reason. Oh, he failed to tell us WHERE, WHEN and HOW he got the video which, according to Mollie Nelson, the widow of Robert Nelson, the owner of the news station, is being kept safe by a “very large law firm”, which hardly would share it on Youtube for the sake of it, mixed with some other random stuff. So, who's claiming that the video is legit? You? PROVE IT. "Irresponsible" my ass, to claim that the video is legit when you don't even know where it originated, is irresponsible. Find some proof and we'll remove the hoax label but don't tell us what to do and what not to do with the stuff that is posted here. |

Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
Did you take my comment as a personal insult or something, because you seem a little angry? I'm just trying to get some critical dialogue going rather than the binary "FAKE"/"REAL" narrative. I will replace the word "irresponsible" with "premature". Do you think the money the YouTuber is making from ad revenune outweighs the capital cost it would have taken to recreate the studio conditions, including very accurate lighting rigging? Comments are not disabled on the Freaky 5 video - I left three this morning. You're assuming Mollie Nelson's footage is the only footage - we can't be sure of that. There have been persistent claims from people saying they think they saw the footage in the 90s. I've mentioned this before and have posted links. Surely including the footage at the end of a compilation video points away from a hoax? They'd surely get more views with it on a single video stating "Chubbuck footage finally revealed!" or something. Why the lack of promotion if it's a hoax for financial gain? There could be legal reasons why Nation Squid won't reveal the source. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm making a suggestion. Perhaps [possible hoax] would be better. But it's just a suggestion... |

Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
Comments were disabled, then re-enabled, then. Actually, I think that we need more members like you, as intelligent people are rare. But there are serious issues when it comes to dealing with videos like this one, since this is documentingreality.com, not documentingwhatmightberealornot.com. Credibility is everything in this business, we simply cannot put our credibility in danger only because someone decided to upload some video on Youtube, and someone else believes that it's the real deal. It does NOT work that way. We need something MUCH different from someone who uploads a video coming from nowhere, then starts a discussion forum about it and fails to explain how the video originated, also because, in the best case, this can result in some crime-related thing, since the only one legally entitled to the possession of the clip stated clearly that it won't be released, so we might be in front of a STOLEN video, with all that this entails. There's one thing that you can do: go to http://www.nationsquid.com/ and ask to the website owner (who is the original uploader) for all the informations that we need. You have all that is needed to corner him for good. In my opinion he won't reply, but it's worth an attempt: you can do something that many others can't, so DO IT. |

Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
I can assure you I won't feel silly at all. Your claim to being able to recreate the set accurately, including the lighting I keep referring to, has about as much value as uncritically yelling "FAKE". However, if it is a hoax, I suppose there is a fourth possible explanation. It's a still of the actual set, and then an actress has been used to read the lines, shoot herself, etc., and then this has been superimposed over the original set image. Not sure how feasible this is, but it's another possibility. |

Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
Will we ever know if it's fake or not, that's what's going to bug me. If real the family may or should sue the fuck out of someone, if they don't I think fake, so many possibilities that us plebs aren't privy to. |

Re: Real Christine Chubbuck Suicide Video [POSSIBLE HOAX]
I'm thinking it's fake! I still have a vcr with tapes from the earily 80's that are terribly distorted, and they look, and play differently then that. I think this is a well produced replica, made with the intention of gettin paid for the so called holy grail!
