Yes Police carry firearms here. The protocol is very similar except pulling the trigger happens when an officer is about to be attacked or clearly approached with a weapon and NO other method has worked.

These situations are not confined to America. America is a first world nation that "claims" to be the "leader" of the free world. Leaders lead by example.

The location of a murder is irrelevant. A person that does not comply and does not attack police does not deserve to die.

As to my standard of living is also irrelevant. Socioeconomic factors such as an individuals education, health, income, upbringing will dictate ones standard of living .

Look man, I agree that nobody in a confrontational situation with the police should get whacked if they are unarmed and not a threat to the police. I would surmise that our friend who is a former policeman would agree that there are those within its ranks who have dishonored and tarnished its reputation with the public. Unfortunately, all the public has visibility to are its failures exposed and those cases where a few bad apples undermined the efforts of the countless many who did not follow suit. But then again, the mainstream media isn't interested in accentuating the positive out of anything. This is the exact reason why I never bought into the bullshit behind Russia's or China's intentions from the MM's perspective or why I refuse to base my opinions about the police from sources that have nothing to gain from glorifying the good things they have done.

I will also say that there are far more Americans who share your sentiment about how we project double standards and hypocrisy but fail to live up to our own priciples in the end than you realize. I'll give you a great example. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate out of any nation in the world. You never hear about that in the MM but we are apt to point out "human rights abuses" in places like China, irrespective of how much factual basis supports such claims. People like myself love our country but are dismayed by those who mask their personal ambitions, slowly eroding our civil liberties away while many of us choose to watch stupid reality tv programs and cheesy sitcoms in response. Beyond the ballot box and petitions, I don't have the answer on how to effectively communicate these issues to a broader audience short of armed rebellion, much less get more of us to care about what these people are doing with our rights (I.e. NDAA, patriot act, the program, gitmo, etc.). Then of course when people from other countries call us out on "not doing anything about it" or "not doing enough about it," they themselves have nothing to offer in terms of suggestions essentially invalidating their arguments and making themselves look like fools in the process.

I realize that in all likelihood none of this matters to you and I am not of the expectation to change your mind about your beliefs. But I figure I would at least let you know the side of America nobody bothered to tell you about and let you decide where to go from there. Otherwise, this will be the first and only time I ever mention anything like this on DR.
