Hmm. Well...I'll start by saying I think the cop was justified. I think too many people fall all over themselves to scream about police brutality. This guy was approaching him with knives; who knows what crazy shit he was going to get up to when he reached the cop.

That being said....I don't know if the cop had a taser or anything, but was there any particular reason he couldn't have exited the house and pulled the door shut behind him? Knives generally require proximity. There could've maybe been an opportunity to get some space, let the guy cool down, let his friend maybe talk him down a bit.

THAT being said...this guy was probably doomed anyway. You crash your car drunk, go to a friend's house, and then zombie-shuffle toward a copy (who's pointing a gun at you) threateningly with knives, you've probably got big issues anyway.

Honestly we need these treatment by cops here in the third world wh ere we have more criminal to cop ratio also the lack of technology and weapons not to mention proper training.But in a county like USA its hard to imagine a cop shooting a guy who is holding a knife ? Where are those taser guns and rubber bullets or is it only to showoff on Discovery channel ? Also isnt it that the cops wear bullet proof gears ? I mean what if the guy is mentally sick or just out of his mind.A lot of people don't easily give up doesn't mean you will kill them.

Many studies on the time it takes someone with a knife / club to cover given distances. When he moved forward it was over. As far as back up, you have no idea how many of these calls happen a night most comply, for the wound him lol please are you going to bet your life on a shot like that? The cop knew he was suicidal and armed, so why did he approach like that? Granted, as soon as the cop was in and the guy was moving toward him, there wasn't much to do but shoot.

In Russia recently drunk man attacked 2 policemen. (Youtube video became very popular).
He was repeatedly hitting them until they made him agree to go with them.

Soviet militia and Russian police HAVE NO RIGHTS to shoot people, because we are humans and not the bloody pigs like in usa.

Great video and good for the cop! I can't believe the ignorance in some of these comments. I guess that's to be expected when people never shot guns or hunted but the DR audience should know better. People or animals don't always go down from bullets. I would have dumped the entire mag if that was me and reloaded ready to fire again. You can tell from his voice at the beginning he doesn't want to shoot this man. He had good shooting form when it came down to it, well done.

It's still Suicide by cop(which for ppl who don't know is a real thing) but sometimes I do agree there should be a taser involved with situations involving no guns or explosives, but still be backed up with a partners gun as last choice.

@ Cyrexis - u r not right. First of all there was enough distance for the cop to get back. Other thing the victim was drunken and walked slowly, so it was enough time to walk outside or shoot guy into the legs. Even after the shooting to the legs guy will try to kill u by taking small hided gun, u still r the way quicker and u will take him down first. Police must to try to save the life first of all in that kind of situation. Now it's funny, the policemen is like a girl, just saw walking drunked guy with a knife ant shoot 5 times to the head. Hope the prison is now the home for that asshole..
