Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Sure, they had other options in this situation they could have exorcised. The problem lies with that particular department...not with all U.S. police in general like everyone here likes to think. The majority of shootings here are justified. Again, I'm not arguing they could have not fired when they did...the problem I have here is that you downplay the fact that he 'only' had a knife. You can find at least 100 more instances where a man with a knife in his hand was shot by police...and not just in the U.S. either. It doesn't matter. If you have as much experience as you claim you do, obviously you know that shot placement is more important than caliber. That said, I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't volunteer to stand in front of a 9mm just as much as you wouldn't a .50 BMG. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I'm not stupid of course I wouldn't, why are you constantly pulling out the "would you volunteer" card?, and shot placement with a .50 pretty much means missing limbs, heads gone, exit wounds the size of dinner plates. Much different than a possible outcome of 9mm rounds. I'm pretty sure most others can see that this was by no means justified, no more than 4 months back at the shopping mall in my local city, a man held himself inside with a pistol, police took him down with beanbag shotguns. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/q...-1226809017500 That's how it's done. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I guess I should reiterate my stance on this. I agree with the shooting, but I don't know why it had to happen to begin with since the entire thing transpired over the course of hours. We don't know what happened before all this that isn't on video, but I find it hard to believe they exercised every other option before it came to this. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
*edit- And I only say I agree with the shooting because the title reads "as he's turning around" but if you watch the video he's clearly facing them with the knife in his hand as the 1st shot is fired (which will pretty much get you shot anywhere). But again, I see no reason why they moved in on him like that. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I love how cops act like a small knife 20 yards away is somehow a super deadly threat. If dude was like a few feet away and headed your direction with a knife like in the other vid I saw; shoot away. That's a different story. But if you blast a guy who is a good distance away and not coming at you, then you're just a murderous asshole. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Seems like a massive over reaction by police, even if he had a knife he was nowhere near enough to any of them to be a threat and if there is no threat of harm then massive deadly force can not be justified in any way. |
